I am proud to announce that The West Indian Lawyer the story of the life of my father, Keith Sobion was launched on 5th September 2019 at the Norman Manley Law School, in Kingston, Jamaica. In essence The West Indian Lawyer is the story of my father’s Caribbean dream.
It’s a story of a young man who grew up in a humble abode in the town of St James with parental roots from the village of Mayaro. In 1975 and at age 24, my father was a member of the first class of graduates from the Hugh Wooding Law School, Trinidad. Before that all law graduates from the West Indies were trained within the United Kingdom. In 1991 my father rose to the esteemed position of Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago; a position he held up to the year 1995. After exiting politics, he was appointed Principal of the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica. He remained in this position until his untimely demise at age 56.
My father was an iconic Caribbean Man who devoted his life to legal education, regional integration and the establishment of the Caribbean Court of Justice. In recognition of his work he was awarded The Humming Bird Gold Medal posthumously by Trinidad and Tobago for his contribution to regional education. For this reason, we chose to honour his legacy by spreading this literary work throughout the Caribbean region. I poured my heart and soul into The West Indian Lawyer and I hope you enjoy reading!
Look out for some next updates and book signings. In the meantime, I am excited to share that as of February 2022, The West Indian Lawyer is now available in Antigua (The Best of Books Bookshop, see above).
Many thanks to my publisher The Council of Legal Education and my Marketing Team at 10 Caribbean.
